A TYPICAL BARNSTORMER WEEKEND
Each gathering begins with rehearsals on Friday from 2 pm to 4 pm and from 7 pm to 9 pm, and on Saturday morning from 9 am to noon. At 5 pm on Saturday the singers and their family and friends gather for a light dinner at the hosting location, followed by a business meeting and the concert at 7:30 pm. After the concert there is a social event, the Afterglow. It’s a great time to unwind after the concert and have fun. The weekend ends by providing special music at a church service on Sunday morning.
During the Friday evening rehearsal there is fun activity for those that are not singing. This has included local experts that talk about quilting, birds and butterflies, honey bees, maple syrup and other interesting topics like national parks or historical events from the local area.
THE CONCERT
Each concert consists of about 20 music selections. The director replaces 1 or 2 songs each year. Since most of the songs are not changed from year-to-year they are well-prepared before performances. The first and last pieces ‘Salutation’ and ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ are always performed with commentary over a hummed section and reflecting on all the Barnstormers who have departed this life and whose memory and “song” inspires those singing today.
CONCERT DRESS
The concert dress is charcoal gray slacks, navy blue blazer, white shirt, black socks and black shoes. Special musical motif ties are provided for the concert.
